When little Sam Bear develops a cough at bedtime Mrs. Bear brings cough medicine to him, but Sam is determined not to take the yucky syrup and keeps his lips sealed, despite Mrs. Bears encouragement. Finally the offer to sit with Mum downstairs and wait for snow is too much for Sam and he gulps down the medicine. They go down and make tea with honey and spend the evening sitting together in the big chair waiting for snow. The text develops slowly and shows a great closeness and warmth between mother and son. Large colourful painted pictures of the characters fill the pages.
