The book depicts a family (mother, father and a child who could be a boy or girl) getting ready for a day trip to a museum. The family take a train, queue for museum tickets, look at exhibits, take part in activities and eat lunch. The child becomes separated from the parents and is shown crying, but remembers that by standing still they will be found again. The reunited family visits the museum shop. The final page shows the child asleep on the homeward bound train.
