One of a series of books featuring friends Max and Millie. While Millie is excited about going to school, Max is shy and is upset about leaving his mummy. The children quickly get involved in many activities (painting, singling, dancing, playing in the sandpit and with the other toys) and make a new friend. They like the little toilets that go ‘fl-u-u-u-s-s-s-h’! As the day goes on, Max becomes more confident and by the time his Mummy returns, he is reluctant to go home.

Max and Millie Start School
An appealing board book which introduces young children to nursery school or playgroup. The book acknowledges that some children are more confident than others in new situations.
Author: Felicity Brooks
Illustrator: Desideria Guicciardini
Publisher: Usborne Publishing Ltd
Things we liked: The author has used simple language and the narrative reflects the way very young children talk. The book is printed on sturdy card and has safe rounded corners. It features lovely child-friendly illustrations.
Worth noting: The title of the book is slightly misleading as it is more about starting playgroup or nursery than starting school.
