Rose and Jack do not like doing any of the same things and argue all the time when they are together. One day their mother is tired of their bickering and sends them out of the house to spend the morning together. When bold, adventurous Jack disappears into a mysterious tunnel and doesn’t come back it is up to timid Rose to conquer her fears and rescue him. The surreal illustrations of the fairy-tale forest on the other side of the tunnel evoke a sense of menace making Jack and Rose’s safe return home all the more satisfying.
