My Henry

Author: Judith Kerr
Illustrator: Judith Kerr
Publisher: HarperCollins Children's Books

“My Henry died and went to heaven, but now he’s got wings they let him out from four till seven and we do all sorts of things.”
Henry’s wife appears to be sitting quietly in her chair waiting for her tea, but in her imagination she is going on elaborate and exciting adventures with her late husband. The couple waterski with dolphins, meet a unicorn, climb Everest and have tea with the Sphinx. But sometimes they just sit together and reflect on how good their life together was.

Things we liked:

Children might find the adventures of the elderly couple entertaining and amusing, and bereaved children may find a comforting message in the story: people can live on in their loved one's memories.
