Max and Millie Get Dressed

An appealing board book which acknowledges that young children are easily distracted when it comes to getting dressed. The father in the story helps the children by making getting dressed into a fun game.

Max and Millie Get Dressed

Author: Felicity Brooks
Illustrator: Desideria Guicciardini
Publisher: Usborne Publishing Ltd

One of a series of books featuring friends Max and Millie. The children are too busy dressing up in costumes to come and get dressed in their day clothes. Millie’s Daddy asks them to look out the window to see what clothes they are likely to need (it’s rainy and cold, so warm clothes are decided upon). He lays their clothes on the sofa and challenges them to get dressed before he finishes counting to ten. With a little help from Daddy, the children happily complete their task.

Things we liked:

The author has used simple language and the narrative reflects the way very young children talk. The book is printed on sturdy card and has safe rounded corners. It features lovely child-friendly illustrations.

Worth noting:

It's a shame that gender stereotypes are present: Millie dresses up as a 'lovely princess' and a 'magic fairy' while Max is a builder and superhero.
