The messages we found in this book:

Acknowledgement:

The book acknowledges that some children will feel nervous or scared about flying in an aeroplane.

Guidance:

  • The author incorporates several good pieces of advice in the book, namely the idea of carrying a lollipop to lessen the ear-popping sensation, and promotes general reassurance tactics to alleviate the child’s anxiety.
  • There is loads of useful information in this story, telling a child what to expect at each stage of their flight, and explaining the processes involved in simple, fun terms.

Hope & Inspiration:

  • The flight is a success! Suzie copes well with her experience, and is rewarded with a fabulous family holiday.
  • This book will inspire many young kids to want to fly on a plane.
Worth noting:

Suzie is flying for the first time with adults who remain calm and are able to reassure her before her fears are able to take hold. This is a great example to follow for any adult in this situation.
