Worzel goes for a walk. Will you come, too?

A simple story which gently promotes responsible dog ownership.
Add to your book list

Author: Catherine Pickles
Illustrator: Chantal Bourgonje
Publisher: Hubble&Hattie

Worzel the lurcher and his adoptive family take a fun winter walk on a beach and enjoy a good splash in the sea together. The family are very responsible, bagging and binning the dog poo and leaving the beach as they found it, preventing Worzel from jumping up on other people and respecting other dogs being walked by giving them a wide berth where necessary. After the walk, the children help to rub down and brush their pet.

Both the author and illustrator clearly know dogs very well and have skilfully created a useful and enjoyable picture book for families to share.

The messages we found in this book:

Guidance:

  • Dogs have feelings too and owners should respect and understand that. A dog on a lead may be frightened or shy, for example, and should be given some space.
  • Dog ownership can be fun, but there are important rules to follow.

Worth noting:
  • Includes notes for parents, teachers and guardians
