Feel Better Daddy

Author: Nancy Loewen
Illustrator: Hazel Quintanilla
Publisher: Quarto

The little girl in the story notices that her Daddy has a cold, and she’s keen to help him feel better. She gives him lots of kisses and cuddles, and ‘steps into his shoes’ by being just like him for the day, making him a bowl of pretend soup, reading him stories and drawing him pictures. The next day, Daddy feels much better and is ready to play again.

This is a lovely little book, pleasingly illustrated in a limited palette of colours by Hazel Quintanilla.

Hope & Inspiration:

  • The girl in the story empathises with her Daddy. She notices the signs that he’s unwell (sleepy eyes, red nose, sneezing) and also when he’s getting better. She puts him first and thinks of ways that she can help him.

What is a Parachute Book?

A challenging experience can make a young child feel as if they are in emotional free fall. As a parent, you can’t stop them falling, but you can offer them a softer landing:
a Parachute Book.
