Ebbs and Flows by Sarah Surgey

Author: Sarah Surgey
Illustrator: Gözde Eyce
Publisher: Brilliant Monster Books

This story is about Pia and how she experiences the Ebbs and Flows of feelings and emotions during her days. Sometimes she feels like a crashing wave, as fast and furious as the wind, angry or sad, which can be scary. Sometimes she feels like a gently flowing river or a gentle breeze, happy and content, which feels safe. Ebbs and Flows are the rhythm of life and we all feel them. Pia gets to know them and grows from them both.

The messages we found in this book:

Acknowledgement:

  • We all experience the Ebbs and Flows of emotions and feelings in our lives. It is normal.
  • Sometimes emotions feel scary and sometimes they feel safe.
  • Feelings come and go and that’s ok.

Guidance:

  • It can help to talk about our experiences and emotions with others who understand us

Hope & Inspiration:

  • There are other people who feel like you – you are not alone.
  • Even an uncomfortable Ebb (challenge) can be powerful and give you the energy to work harder for what
    you want.
  • You can get help to talk about how to manage your feelings.
  • Pia learns from emotions and situations and she grows from them.
