Steven’s mum sends him on an errand to buy groceries from the shop. He takes her shopping basket and sets off, and buys everything she needs. On his return journey he encounters several unpleasant creatures who try to bully him into handing over food from his shopping basket. A bear threatens to hug his breath out of him unless he hands over his eggs, a monkey says he’ll pull his hair unless Steven gives him the bananas, and so on. In each case, Stephen outwits the animal by using his brain, and his shopping basket remains intact. When he arrives home, his mum scolds him for taking so long!
The Shopping Basket
A positive account of how a child uses his brain to outsmart bullies. May encourage children to react to teasing and bullying in ways other than physical retaliation.
