Our supported charity: Winston’s Wish

Over the past 10 years, Little Parachutes has donated a percentage of its proceeds to children’s bereavement charity, Winston’s Wish.

Over 100 children are bereaved of a parent every day in the U.K. Winston’s Wish supports children, young people and their families after the death of a parent or sibling. This is one of the most devastating and traumatic situations a child can face, but with the right support at the right time, children can lead full and flourishing lives. For more information about Winston’s Wish, visit www.winstonswish.org or call 01242 515157. The National Freephone Helpline number for families and professionals is 08088 020 021.

Claire Ward-Dutton, Founder of Little Parachutes says “We chose to support Winston’s Wish as it fits so well with our aim of helping children in challenging situations. Winston’s Wish provides such a vital service and improves the lives of so many young people; we are delighted to be able to contribute by raising funds and awareness of their work.”

Louise Brown, Community and Events Fundraiser at Winston’s Wish explains why books like those suggested on the Little Parachutes website are so important: “The death of someone in the family, whether sudden or expected changes everything. Although supporting a bereaved child can seem daunting, grief is normal – and necessary – and needs to be expressed. Books are a great way for children to understand their emotions and talk about how they are feeling, whilst also offering guidance to adults on the best way to broach sensitive subjects like death. We are really grateful to Little Parachutes for their generosity and believe the service they offer is invaluable to the community.”

What is a Parachute Book?

A challenging experience can make a young child feel as if they are in emotional free fall. As a parent, you can’t stop them falling, but you can offer them a softer landing:
