Just Like You Did

Author: Marjorie Newman
Illustrator: Ken Wilson-Max
Publisher: Bloomsbury

The story starts as Tom is just about to have a new baby brother or sister arrive. He watches grumpily as his Mum and Dad get things ready around the house, making use of the things he had when he was a baby. Although the new arrival is a baby boy, Tom is not at all sure that he likes it. The rest of the family (and friends too) spend a lot of time looking at the new baby and Tom feels left out – and as the days go by it becomes clear that Tom’s Mum and Dad are having to spend a lot of time looking after it. Tom’s Mum isn’t able to play with him like she used to and he soon snaps, getting very angry about the new baby. Then, though, Tom’s Mum and Dad sit him down and show him pictures of what he was like when he was a baby. They explain that the baby will soon start to grow up and things won’t be difficult for ever, and they reassure Tom that he’ll always be special as he was Mum and Dad’s first baby.
